Populating an Mp3 player

I broke down and bought a big hard disk based mp3 player for myself. The only problem is deciding what from the collection should go onto it. It's only got a 60gb capacity, which means that it can't take my entire collection.
Oh! the decisions! They'd melt your face.

Credit reports

this is blatantly taken from another web site about credit ratings. It is in regards to inquiries about credit ratings reducing your rating - it turns out that it does, if there are more than 2 requests in a 60 day period it will affect your rating, but that this effect will expire after 12 months. I didn't realize that it can happen, until Dave mentioned it.

Gleb's home country?

It looks like Gleb's home country is in trouble. Mind you it's the 3rd revolution in 16 months, so it may not be all that bad! Revolution is revolution no matter how many times it happens.

Bob Fisk

Yet another Op-ed piece from Robert Fisk. This one is in the Seattle Post-Intelligencier. It's about the War's effect being felt across the Mideast.
Scary biscuits.

Network acting up

jayandbrett.pngWell, I always wondered what the story was with the network in college, and while nothing quite like this ever happened to us, it would not have been difficult to fulfill the computer's wishes for us either.

Grandad's Memoirs

Index of /memoirs This is a sliced up copy of my grandfather's memoirs of the Irish war of Independence, and the irish Civil War. They were transferred from reel-to-reel tape to standard audio tape, and from there to the PC, where I normalized the audio (I may have missed some tracks), and then split the sound into files relating to the specific stories.

Jammie Dodgers

bicciesHow can anyone not like the irresistable jammie dodger? It is a biccie from god.

The Driven

Jesus loves you more if you can drive is the song, the driven is the band.

Well it's not all bad

Turns out that everyone was being really really paranoid, and we were getting lines crossed. the reason my mother was being held in the hospital was that she was required to remain really still for about 5-6 hours after the procedure. The overall analysis was that she has only 50% blockage, which should be remediable via drugs.

Happiness

Head over Heels From the files of the underdogs comes the game that really made me happy and frustrated.

Stent

Today/Tomorrow my mother is getting a stent put in, which is a wire tube put in to keep the artery open after an angioplasty. Our family being the conversationalists that they are are keeping this a secret form one another. It's only by phoning people directly that we find out what's happening, my mom doesn't want to tell anyone that it's going on.
I've just been informed that this is just suspected, there is no absolute certainty about this as the doctor has not got back in touch with my mother yet. Sheesh! This is compounded by the fact that I'm in New York this week, and they are in Cork, Ireland.

Knobbled

I came home to find my laptop had rebooted into linux (a much more sane operating system), without any information, I looked at the event log and found that I was being hit by the limit to te number of TCP/IP connections that can be made per second. I hit this when I open a group of bookmarks in firefox! There is more detail here, but the long and short of things is if you attempt to make more than 10 connections in a second you are rate limited, and a message is logged in the event log. It's not tunable in the registry, you need to hack the tcpip.sys file directly. I presume the reason for not allowing the registry hack is to prevent virus writers/trojan horse writers from making alterations to the registry value, thus removing it's capability. Annoying, but work-aroundable. SpeedGuide.net :: Windows XP SP2

How to destroy the world

This one's for you Rob. I know you have it in you :) How to destroy the world

Dogs

Home of the Underdogs This is where I go to remember all the cool games of yore!

Megatokyo development

cabinpressure.png I've been reading Megatokyo for a long time, and it's just great. The current developments make me feel like the bit in the Fight Club where Edward Norton's character says: "Ladies and gentlemen, we have just lost cabin pressure". Tune in 3 times a week for updates. If you feel like reading a lot of the earlier ones I would recommend buying the books - it's a small cost to you, and it allows you to track the story far better than online. At 681 comics that's a lot of online reading.

Pete.
